Our Story

Boys Get Sad Too started in a bedroom in 2018.

Not as a brand or a business plan, but as an idea that felt too important to ignore.

The idea came from Kyle, who grew up supporting his father through clinical depression. Seeing that firsthand shaped how he understood mental health from an early age, especially how difficult it can be to talk about what you’re really feeling.

Years later, after going through therapy himself, Kyle realised something that stayed with him. He didn’t know how to talk about his own emotions.

Like a lot of people, he kept things to himself, not because he wanted to, but because he didn’t know how to put it into words.

One day, while looking back through an old journal, he came across a simple phrase he had written

“boys get sad too”

THE BEGINNING

Boys Get Sad Too started in a bedroom with a simple idea, create clothing that makes people feel seen and less alone.

FIRST OFFICE

We moved into our first office and our very first hire was Kyle’s mum. What started as a one person idea became a real team with a real community behind it.

still the same misson

Today, nearly 10 people work on Boys Get Sad Too every day. The team has grown, the community has grown, but the vision is still the same, make people feel understood through everything we create.

What started as something personal quickly grew through demand. More people wanted to wear the message, share it and be part of it. Without outside investment or backing, the brand was built from the ground up, self-funded and driven by the community around it.

Today, Boys Get Sad Too has grown into a global mental health clothing brand, with over 200,000 people wearing the message. Despite the name, it has always been about more than just boys. It’s a brand for everyone, for anyone who has ever struggled, supported someone else, or simply wants to feel understood or make a difference.
